Republic FC got a taste of what it feels like for a visiting team at Bonney Field.

In front of a loud, festive and near-sellout crowd favoring C.D. Guadalajara, Sacramento played the Liga MX side to a 1-1 draw in a friendly Wednesday night. The match was the last of the 2016 season for Republic FC.

C.D. Guadalajara, popularly known as Chivas, opened the scoring in the 18th minute when forward Marco Bueno scored on a powerful header from a corner kick by Sacramento-born defender Miguel Ponce.

Republic FC knotted it when Danny Barrera scored off a Wilson Kneeshaw assist in the 36th minute.

Sacramento had a chance to win in the 86th minute with three successive shots seconds apart.

Chivas goalkeeper Miguel Jimenez tipped Mackenzie Pridham’s header off the crossbar, then Jimenez parried Christian Chaney’s follow-up blast. The ball rolled toward Agustin Cazarez, whose shot from 15 yards deflected off a Chivas defender and sailed over the crossbar.

Republic FC goalkeeper Dominik Jakubek made a leaping save of Eduardo Lopez’s blast in the 64th minute, and the back line of Joaquin Rivas, Mike da Fonte, Alfonso Motagalvan and Elliott Hord held off Chivas’ aggressive attackers in the late going.

Chivas outshot Republic FC 20-8, but Sacramento had six shots on frame to Chivas’ five.

It was the third time Republic FC had played a friendly against a Liga MX team. Sacramento played Atlas FC, Chivas’ bitter Guadalajara rivals, in 2014 and 2015, losing both times.
